這些名詞均有“戰(zhàn)斗，戰(zhàn)爭”之意。
1.battle : 側(cè)重指戰(zhàn)爭中的一次較全面、時間較長的戰(zhàn)斗，也指陸軍或海軍在某一特定地區(qū)進(jìn)行的戰(zhàn)斗，或個人之間的爭斗。
例如：The two armies battled all night. 兩軍徹夜戰(zhàn)斗。
2.war : 是戰(zhàn)爭的總稱，一般指包括多個戰(zhàn)役的大規(guī)模戰(zhàn)爭
例如：Their courage brought the people through the war. 他們的勇氣使人們熬過了戰(zhàn)爭。
3.campaign : 通常指在一場大的戰(zhàn)爭中在某一地區(qū)進(jìn)行的一連串有既定目的的軍事行動。也可作引申用。
例如：Our country is launching a campaign against waste。我們國家正在開展反浪費運動。
4.struggle : 指激烈或時間持續(xù)長的戰(zhàn)斗或奮力斗爭。

5.warfare : 側(cè)重指戰(zhàn)爭狀態(tài)或具體的作戰(zhàn)方法。
They are waging warfare with drought。他們正同干旱作斗爭。
6.fight : 最普通用詞，含義廣，指戰(zhàn)斗、斗爭或打斗。
例如：After a fierce fight , the enemy yielded to us。經(jīng)過一場激戰(zhàn)，敵人向我們投降了。
7.combat : 泛指軍事行動，尤指小規(guī)模的戰(zhàn)斗，甚至是格斗。
例如：He was awarded a cross for gallantry in combat。他因在戰(zhàn)斗中表現(xiàn)英勇而被授予十字勛章。
8.engagement : 指交戰(zhàn)，交火。
例如：These engagements proved decisive turning points。這幾仗構(gòu)成了決定性的轉(zhuǎn)折點。
